Radovan Brož was born in 1936 in Pardubice and he experienced three Allied air raids on this city during the war. Athletics was his lifelong hobby as well as his job. Radovan graduated from the Institute of Physical Education and he was an athlete and middle-distance runner and he worked as a coach of young people for his entire life. The authorities confiscated his passport in 1972 and he was not allowed to travel abroad for fourteen years. The passport was returned to him only at the end of the 1980s and he thus became able to participate in a number of junior athletics championships all over the world. Among other, he had a chance to visit Canada, Cuba, or North Korea as a coach. After his active coaching career ended, Radovan began focusing on the history of sport in Pardubice, and he has already published several books on this topic.
