„My jsme toho devátého května, ale i dost dlouhou dobu potom, byli přesvědčení, že bombardovali Němci.“ „Co vás k tomu vedlo?“ „Protože jsme je nenáviděli, o Rusech jsme nepředpokládali, že by takovou věc udělali. Dneska tomu spíš věříme. Ty zásahy byly takový, že bylo možné si to odůvodnit, co ničili Němci: bylo to u soudu, kde měli určitě archivy, u tý sedlárny, kde vedle bylo letecký oddělení Škodovky. Mohli mířit na starou radnici, jestli tam byly nějaký dokumenty. Nějaká výroba byla na tom Ptáku u Jizery. Vypadalo to velmi logicky, že spalujou mosty, ničej za sebou, co vyráběli, aby to nedostali Rusové, a ničej svoje dokumenty, aby nebyli postižení.“

„Toho 9. května otec byl doma, protože továrna nefungovala. Dopoledne jsme se vydali na příjemnou procházku, podívat se, jak Němci prchají. Došli jsme k hospodářské škole, tam jsme se zastavili a rozhlíželi se…“ „Můžete popsat, jak to tam vypadalo? Hospodářská škola byla tam, kde je dnes autobusové nádraží…“ „Ano. V prostoru mezi nádražím a autobusovým nádražím byla pole. Za války jsme kousek toho pole měli, mohli jsme si tam pěstovat mák, brambory, zeleninu. Co se dalo, abychom něco jedli. Tam byl takový prostor nikoho, takové pozemky, které čekaly, až se tam postaví ta nová část továrny. Došli jsme tam. Kamarádka bydlela v protějším domě, byl to takový vysoký barák mezi rodinnými vilkami… Byl tam travnatý příkop. Rozhlíželi jsme se. Vedle nás stál nějaký pán, který už měl na sobě československou uniformu, takže jsme si ho opravdu všimli. Viděli jsme, že letí taková letka asi sedmi letadel, v naší optice to vypadalo, že je to nad Chlumem, ale muselo to být někde nad Stodem, nad Jičínkou. Dívali jsme se potěšeně na ta letadla, když on najednou zařval: ,Bomby, k zemi.’ Tak jsme padli do toho příkopu. Když přestaly výbuchy, už jsme nic neslyšeli, opatrně jsme příkopem na druhé straně ulice došli až na roh do hospody u nemocnice. Tam byl obrovský sklep. Sešli jsme do toho sklepa, tam bylo asi třicet až padesát dí z ulice, kteří tam doběhli. Nic dalšího se už nedělo. Došli jsme domů. To odpoledne jsme byli doma. Já jsem byla na zahradě a bavila jsem se s klukem, který měl pistoli, točil s bubínkem. Byl velice šťastný, že má zbraň. Kromě Markových, kteří nevím, kam se poděli, ti kolaboranti, jsme noc všichni trávili v prádelně. Ta měla dvě místnosti, tam jsme strávili noc.“

Boleslav sice prodělala několik… jako častý poplachy, ale bombardovaná byla devátého května čtyřicet pět. Desítky let se tvrdilo, že to bombardovali Němci, aby zlikvidovali archivy a nějaký svoje výroby. Po roce devadesát vznikla taková teorie, že to byli Rusové, který ale nevím co… Moc jsem tomu neporozuměla, co měli chtít. Myslím si, že to byli ti Němci, který chtěli něco zlikvidovat. A to jsem zažila velmi živě, protože my jsme se vydali… Přes tu Boleslav totiž jely… Celejch těch několik dnů putovaly kolony německý evakuace, lazaretu, vojáci prchali. Chtěli se dostat do západní zóny. Prostě báli se Rusů. A projížděli takovým způsobem, že prostě patnáctiletý kluci je odzbrojovali, jo. Oni to vzdávali, věděli, že je konec, a že jde jenom o to, aby se dostali z dosahu Rusů. Tak jsme se jednou byli projít kousek jako na kraj Boleslavi. A díváme se tak kolem sebe. A za náma stál pán, kterej byl už v československý uniformě. Důstojník, kterej za války nemohl bejt v armádě, že jo, tak vytáhl tu uniformu. A my jsme tak stáli a on najednou řval: „K zemi! Letadla!“ A tam jako bylo vidět na obzoru taková malá letka, asi pět, sedm letadel a bylo vidět, jak padaj ty bomby. Takže jsme z toho příkopu potom se dostali do nějaký hospody. Půl dne jsme strávili ve sklepě jedný hospody a teprve pak jsme se dostali domů. A protože jsme nevěděli, co se vlastně děje, tak jsme celou noc strávili v prádelně, celej dům jsme se nastěhovali do prádelny, včetně asi tříměsíčního chlapečka… nebo třínedělního. Úplně čerstvý mimino. Takže tu noc jsme tam strávili. No ale pak se ukázalo, že je vlastně… že už se nic neděje.

Moje jaksi cesta školstvím byla velmi složitá a velmi podivná. Já jsem skoro nic nedokončila a skoro nic jsem nezačala. Musím vyprávět. Já jsem začala chodit do školy prvního září 1937. Čtrnáctého září zemřel Masaryk, a to byla taková předzvěst toho, že bude nějak zle. A v druhé třídě byla Mnichovská dohoda. A po té Mnichovské dohodě, když přišli lidi z těch obsazenejch oblastí do centra, tak musely všechny učitelky, který byly vdaný a měly teda někoho, kdo je bude živit, odejít ze školství, aby byly místa pro ty lidi, který prostě přišli. No a já jsem tím přišla o báječnou paní učitelku Ludvíkovou. To byl ten začátek. Další historie byla, že když jsem ukončila čtvrtou třídu, tak nacisti rozhodli, že první stupeň bude čtyřletý a my že půjdeme do měšťanky, takže nás poslali do měšťanky. Ale za rok jsme mohli dělat zkoušky na gymnázium. A to jsem… To mě rodiče odhlásili, protože to celý okres… No tak ty zkoušky jsem nedělala, protože přijímali třicet kluků a pět holek z celýho okresu. To bylo beznadějný, takže jsem chodila na měšťanku. Ta skončila čtvrtým ročníkem ve školním roce čtyřicet čtyři, čtyřicet pět. A musím říct, že na ten ročník jsem vzpomínala právě teďka na jaře, protože jsem zažila to neučení. Nejdřív byly pořád poplachy, to nás posílali celej podzim domů. Dycky jsme přišli, v deset hodin přiletěli někam nad Ústí letadla, a tak jsme šli domů. Po Vánocích už byly ve všech školách lazarety, takže my jsme chodili na radnici, tam stáli učitelé po chodbách. My jsme jim odevzdali úkoly, oni nám dali nějaký další. No a takhle to šlo až do toho květnovýho povstání. A po něm sice jsme přišli do školy, ale zase nás poslali na brigádu, takže ten čtvrtej ročník vlastně jsme vůbec neabsolvovali.

“A stream of Germans was passing through Mladá Boleslav towards the south. They were fleeing the Red Army, I don’t know where they had come from, but I think it was from around Liberec. They probably tried to get somewhere to the West. It was an army on the run with field hospitals. They were soldiers – but soldiers from the end of the war: that means fifteen-year-old boys and ´uncles´ in their fifties, so there was no trouble with them at all. The guys were normally disarming them and the Germans were surrendering their weapons peacefully and they tried to run away more than anything else. We were standing with my parents in the place where there is the bus station now, in the direction of Kosmonosy, and as we were looking around, we saw several airplanes. Behind us there was some Czech officer, and he spread out his uniform and shouted: ´To the ground!´ We dived into a ditch, because it was a German squadron which tried to bomb the city. The Germans were ordered to destroy archives and some factories, but they did not know their target properly. The court building with archives thus remained intact and all the shooting was aimed at our people. I remember there was a man who returned home from the Buchenwald concentration camp one day before the bombing and the following day the bombardment killed his wife and daughter in their house. And on top of that, there was a terrible massacre of the fleeing Germans.”

“We knew precisely which girl, the only one, was from a family of collaborationists. It was still an all-girls’ school at that time. All the teachers knew it, too. So when the girl was absent, they would change the content of the class, and they would teach us about Hus, Komenský, Palach. They would catch up with what was missing in education.”

“The situation was like this. The lady had a son who was about my age and before the war we used to go for walks together. Afterwards I haven’t seen her anymore, because all the Jews from Mladá Boleslav were concentrated in the castle right at the beginning of the war. There is a museum now, but the castle building in Mladá Boleslav had served various purposes before. Somebody used to live there, there were some workshops, too, and so on. The Nazis turned the building into a concentration place for the Jews. The Jews began wearing the Star of David at that time, and one day we met this Mrs. Seidlerová and mom stopped to talk to her as if nothing happened. The woman kept holding her hand over the star all the time so that she would not put my mom at risk, and this was the last time I saw her. The parents Seidler have not returned, only their son returned. He lived in some boarding house after the war, I know that we used to see him there but I have not talked to him anymore. There was some wall between us which did not make this possible.”

“At that time we invited (to a festival in Žďár nad Sázavou) Hugh Lovegrove from England who led a seminar there. It was a strange seminar, it was held in a Sokol gym and about sixty people participated. There were about thirty children from the Pírko ensemble, and thirty adult participants. We all played some games and exercises together, including so-called blind games. That’s when I experienced blind games for the first time. Somebody would guide those sixty people and there were columns in front of the entrance to the building, and he was guiding us around those columns, out and in again, and it was very impressive. There were many other exercises, and he himself was surprised by some of them, because our own thinking got into it – and it was absolutely different from what he knew.”

“It was mostly done in a way that somebody would go somewhere and bring some information. For example, in 1965 or 1966 I traveled to West Germany; I was sent there by our Institute. The city was called Remscheid, it is in the Ruhr region right above the river, which indeed smells of steel, because it is only a short distance from Solingen. There was an institution which organized some courses for young people, a kind of a youth centre. We were sent there for about a week, and during the following week a man from the ministry of youth was driving us all over Germany to visit similar institutions. In Remscheid they had a great book and I asked them to lend me one copy to Prague, and I returned it later. With great trouble, one of my friends here found another acquaintance, a person who worked in a university library and it was possible to reproduce and copy the book there. What was also very strange, by the way, is that there existed a special vocational training course called copying. There was a special course for what you now do by yourself at home.”

“I have such an experience from the normalization era, and that is that the normalization was very much influenced by the character of the people. I can compare the bigwigs of that time in southern and eastern Bohemia, because in the 1980s, puppeteers and the Puppeteers’ Chrudim festival became included in my agenda. The attitude of those people was absolutely incomparable. In Chrudim, there was nothing allowed, everything was suspicious, everything was restricted, and secret cops were coming to see the seminars. I witnessed when a police commander, who was in the organizing committee, said: ´Comrades, I need some more ribbons so that our comrades can get into these seminars.´ On the other hand, there was nothing like that in Kaplice in southern Bohemia.”
