Antonín Stáně was born in Prague on the 16th of November 1944. His parents were Vojtěch Stáně and Ludmila Stáňová, née Svojsíková. His mother was born in 1910 as the eldest child of Professor Antonín Benjamín Svojsík, the founder of Czech Scouting, and Julie Svojsíková, née Stránská. His father, the son of Antonín and Hana Stáně, was a diplomat - he worked at the Czechoslovak embassy in Vienna for three years after World War 2. Thus the young Antonín spent his childhood in Austria. His mother Ludmila tended to the family home; it was not until after 1948, when her husband was released from his service, that she learned typewriting and found employment as a typist. In 1959, Antonín Stáně began secondary school. After graduating, he applied to the Faculty of Construction, which he successfully completed in 1968. After his final exams, he left for England for the summer - there he was later accepted for postgraduate studies at the University of London. After completing this, he decided to stay in England. He worked on the construction of the London National Theatre. During his career, Ing. Stáně became the head of the Prague branch of a private British drafting company. When it was dissolved during the economic crisis, Antonín Stáně ended his career in the field of construction, drafting and investments. He returned to London, where his main activity is working for the Czech expatriate institution Velehrad.
